Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day

Botanica Health

June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a date where we recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada.

We at Botanica Health acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of various Indigenous Peoples, including the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. As a team made up of humans from many different parts of the world, we are committed to using our platform to bring awareness to issues affecting Indigenous communities, share resources, and support Indigenous communities to the best of our ability.

the indigenous water crisis

Although access to clean drinking water is a basic human right, many Indigenous communities in Canada have faced significant challenges accessing safe water sources for decades. As of May 2023, 27 communities were still under long-term drinking water advisories. A single drinking water advisory can mean as many at 5,000 people lack access to safe, clean drinking water.

What can you do to support?

  1. Use your voice: Call on the federal government to fulfill their promise made in 2015 to put an end to all long-term Drinking Water Advisories in all First Nations.
  2. Donate to organizations that work with Indigenous communities to address the water crisis, raise awareness on this important issue, and educate future leaders:
