Hyper-functional Beverages & What You Need to Know About Health Tonics!

Yes, you’re busy with a heavy workload so you need to get the most out of everything you do in a day. And you’re definitely not alone, many of us are working long hours and come home to a giant to-do list every night. Your body is miraculous, it can (for the most part) keep up, but sometimes it could use some extra help. Enter hyper-functional beverages!

These are absolutely delicious health tonics that quench your thirst while also giving your body that added boost it needs. Health tonics are the latest craze for a very good reason. My favourites combine nutrients and healing herbs with a digestive-friendly ferment. In one drink you can awaken your digestion and give your body the added support it needs to get through your day. It may even eliminate your afternoon coffee run!

These are my 3 favourite Health Tonics:

Energizing Ashwagandha Elixir

Ashwagandha is a great herb for a stressed-out body. It helps your body adapt to stress while also giving you a boost of energy. Try this elixir mid-morning or early afternoon to clear your head and keep your energy high.

Ingredients
1 cup (250 mL) hot steeped chai tea
4 tsp (20 mL) Botanica Daily Energy Shot
½ tsp (2 mL) raw honey, optional
¼ cup (60 mL) foamed almond milk

Directions
Combine hot tea and fermented ashwagandha in a cup. Stir in honey, if you wish. Spoon foamed milk on top. Alternatively, steep and chill tea. Place in a high-speed blender with fermented ashwagandha, honey and milk. Whirl until foamy. Garnish. Sip until finished.

Cranberry Milk Thistle Mimosas

Could your liver need some support after drinking a few evening glasses of wine to relax? Your liver loves this delicious health tonic and you’ll (barely) miss the alcohol.

Ingredients
– serves 2
½ cup (125 mL) unsweetened cranberry or pomegranate juice
½ cup (125 mL) orange juice
2 tbsp (30 mL) raw apple cider vinegar
2 tsp (10 mL) pure maple syrup
4 tsp (20 mL) Botanica Daily Detox Shot
Ice cubes
Naturally carbonated water
Orange slices, for garnish

Directions
Combine cranberry juice, orange juice, cider vinegar, maple syrup and milk thistle in a glass jar. Stir to blend. Pour over ice in two wine glasses and top up with carbonated water. Garnish with fruit and serve.

Immune-Boosting Sparkling Mocktail

Feeling under the weather? Or feeling some tummy troubles? This cold-busting tonic helps support your digestive system and your immune system. Drink it daily and it’ll even boost your energy. It’s an almost magical health tonic.

Ingredients
1 cup (250 mL) pure apple cider
1 tbsp (30 mL) lemon juice
4 tsp (20 mL) Botanica Daily Anti-Inflammatory Shot
1 tsp (5 mL) raw honey
Ice cubes
Naturally carbonated water
Licorice sticks, for stirring
Apple slices and watermelon radish, for garnish

Directions
Combine apple cider, lemon juice, fermented turmeric ginger and honey in a glass jar. Shake vigorously to blend. Pour into two glasses filled with ice cubes and top up with carbonated water. Add licorice sticks for stirring. Garnish and serve.
